Dad at the Movies is about to get a little more intense. Last year I had started this section as a sort of chronicle of my life being a single dad and a blog writing movie lover. As you can see, it didn’t last too long. In fact, last year was a pretty bad year for The Film Reel. Out of that came a fresh idea for this section.
The Film Reel started as a challenge to myself to watch a movie a day for one year, which I accomplished in the second year. In 2011 I didn’t even hit 200 movies. It was time for the movie a day idea to come back, but I wanted it to be something more. Watching a movie every day for an entire year is quite hard, harder than most would probably imagine. Add to that the fact that I’ve got two kids, a girlfriend, a group of friends who I interact with outside of the internet, and a family who happens to live right across the street from me.
On top of all that, I don’t work. Right there you would think I’d have all kinds of time to watch movies. It’s quite the opposite though. That leaves me stressed out trying to pay the bills, keep the house clean, make sure the kids stay on the right path, fill everyone’s plate with food, and try to make sure that nobody smells strange when they go out the front door. You would think there would be free time, but there isn’t.
I’m not sure what you want to call this, but I’ll be posting every day with the exciting, and not so exciting, things that happen around here. So instead of just reading a review every day for another movie, until I hit that magic number of 365 movies in 365 days, you’ll be able to see just how I pull it all off. I won’t hold anything back so everyone can see all the ups and downs that happen around here, although I will probably withhold names. I’m sure that not everyone would be happy to know that they could show up here on an ongoing basis.
You’ll be able to find all the links for each day right here. Here’s hoping that 2012 brings some good things!
