Once again, the incredible Fantasia International Film Festival kicks off and I won’t be there. Every year I’ve wanted to go, and every year I just can’t pull it off. With two kids on summer vacation, and the fact that the festival is so long, there just isn’t the time or money to head out there.
For those of you that are getting ready to check it out, or for those of you who are already there, be sure to get a look at the amazing short film Familiar. Here’s the press release!
Fatal Pictures is proud to announce Familiar, a new horror short starring
Robert Nolan, Astrida Auza and Cathryn Hostick as the seemingly idyllic
yet ultimately doomed Dodd Family. Familiar has been included in the
Fantasia Film Festival 2012 lineup.
Familiar was written and directed by Richard Powell, produced by Zach
Green. Cinematography & co-produced by Michael Jari Davidson with
special F/X provided by Ryan Louagie, Carlos Henriques and Steven
Dawley (The Butcher Shop). Music & Sound Design by Bernie
Greenspoon.
Synopsis : Familiar is the story of a series of tragic events leading a
middle-aged man to grow to suspect the negative impulses plaguing his
mind may not be his own.
This is an incredible short film, bringing to mind the kind of great body horror that David Cronenberg is so well known for. You can find our review for the film right here, as well as our interview with Zach Green right here. If you’re at the festival, make sure you see this short slice of Canadian horror!
