A very quick one for today, especially since it’s so hot up here in the Great White North. It’s days like this that I wish we actually did live in igloos! TIFF is starting off their program The Free Screen today, starting with Liquid Metal. This is a group of experimental shorts that were inspired by the technology used to create the T1000 in Terminator 2. Head over to the Toronto Film Scene and check it out.
Experimental film may not be for everybody, but there are some fantastic short films in here. The absolute best one was Firing Squad. Taking the sights and sounds of televisions being turned on or off, director Tasman Richardson edits it all together to make a visual masterpiece. It helps that the music created from the static and sounds from the TVs winds up sounding like a Nine Inch Nails album, because they happen to be one of my favorite bands.
