Dad at the Movies – May 2nd, 2012

Wow, how long has it been since I’ve been back here? I’m sure it’s been over a month, if not longer. I’d apologize, but I’m pretty sure there isn’t a high demand for another Dad at the Movies post. I’ll assume that not many people noticed I was gone. There is a logical explanation for my absence though. Work.

Ah, didn’t think I’d ever get around to doing that again, although this form of work is much more enjoyable. My writing for Toronto Film Scene eats up a lot of my free time, or at least enough of it for me to be sick of staring at the computer by the end of the day. That’s why everything has been lacking around The Film Reel. I’m surprisingly close to being on track for my 365 movies in 365 days thanks to my work for Toronto Film Scene. As of today, the 123rd day of the year, I’m sitting at 113 reviews with 3 more waiting to be published. That only puts me 7 movies behind. There will be many moments this year that will allow me to catch up. I’m looking at you Toronto After Dark!

It’s certainly been excessively busy lately and I’ve probably gotten to know my television more than my friends for the last month. It’s been a whirlwind of movie theatres, late nights trying to stay awake for another screener, hours spent typing away, and enough popcorn to almost make me sick of it. I can’t say it’s not worth it though. I’ve seen all kinds of films that I never would have gotten to before, as well as some films that I was planning on seeing anyway.

There’s been plenty of changes and a lot of things that stay the same. My house is still a dump and that pile of laundry never gets any smaller. Lets just say that there won’t be a big party over at my place any time soon, unless I get off my lazy butt and tidy up. Man, I can’t imagine that happening. There has been some very recent changes that will affect The Film Reel, though not exactly in a bad way.

My content from Toronto Film Scene won’t be posted here anymore, at least not in the form it was before. All those reviews will still be available, but I’ll be taking a day at the end of the week to summarize and list any reviews I do over at Toronto Film Scene. That means I’ll be back at The Film Reel, trying to fill every day up with the great reviews that I’ve always done.

I was getting a bit lazy before. If I needed content, I just waited for TFS to post my reviews so I could put them up here. Well, no longer. Not only will there be content for TFS, but for The Film Reel as well. That means I should be going over and above my 365 movies in 365 days. I’m thinking I could easily hit 400, if not more. It’ll just look a little bit different.

So, for anyone that’s keeping score, you’ll be happy to know that there should never be a shortage of reviews to read here. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some interesting new content as well as bringing back some of the old stuff. All I have to do is figure out how to fit it all into my day without going insane or getting one of those annoying headaches from staring at screens too much!
