Dad at the Movies – Mar. 2nd, 2012

After some of the interesting moments that the week had held for me, I was looking forward to Friday. I couldn’t exactly go out and party like I had wanted to, but we still managed to get together with a couple of friends. Burgers, beer, and Near Dark followed.

Before I could get around to all those beers and great food, I had to deal with phone call after phone call and a daughter who claimed to be sick. Of course, she wasn’t sick, it was just a dry throat. Basically, the entire house is getting tired of winter. The electric heat is obviously killing all of us. That’s why my daughter assumed that she was sick. I knew better but once she’s called home from school, there isn’t much else to do except pick her up.

By the time 10 am rolled around, my daughter was in the basement instead of school, and I was starting my phone calls. I had to figure out why the bank was saying I owed them $2,000. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a mistake. I was really hoping that someone had done something wrong, but that’s not how it worked out. It’s a great learning experience though. No matter how much you try and work things out, it never hurts to triple check. Had I taken 20 minutes to go over the pile of paperwork that I had, I would have noticed the mistake I made and saved myself $2,000.

Not much I could do about it on Friday though. After spending almost 3 hours on the phone, I fed my daughter lunch and grabbed a shower. A quick trip over to the school to pick up my son, and another quick trip to the beer store, and I was pretty much done for the day.

I had to get the kids off to their mother’s house, then I made my way over to my friends place. Just in time too, because I was starving to death and my friends were making us dinner. Nothing is better than some freshly cooked hamburgers. It only made me wish it was summer more. I can’t wait to fire up that BBQ again.

After stuffing our faces, and getting a few beers into us, we sat down to watch Near Dark. I’ve always heard so many good things about it, but I have to say that it was pretty boring. It’s edited terribly, the script was pretty bad, and there’s just not enough vampire action. There were moments that shined, but overall it was quite dull. I was surprised actually. I think if I had seen the film when it originally came out, I would have loved it.

After a few more beers, and a little bit more food, it was time to head home. I was beat by the time I got here, and it didn’t take long for me to fall asleep. I must have been getting a good rest because I was informed early Saturday morning that I had snored all night. I’d apologize to my girlfriend, but I didn’t hear any snoring!
